Abstract:
Capatue® CSLX-D4E4 is a tetrafunctional epoxy-functional cyclotetrasiloxane with a cyclotetra- siloxane (D4) backbone, in which each silicon atom is bonded to a methyl group and an epoxypropoxypropyl group, combining the stability of a cyclic structure with the high reactivity of epoxy groups.
The four aliphatic epoxy groups enhance the product’s adhesion properties and crosslinking strength, providing multi-epoxy reactivity, high crosslinking density, and fast curing. It supports curing via amine, acid anhydride, and cationic methods. Meanwhile, the cyclic siloxane structure offers both flexibility and resistance to high and low temperatures, improving the toughness and thermal stability of composite materials. The synergistic effect of these two components results in superior composite performance, combining the excellent heat resistance and high glass transition temperature of siloxanes. Additionally, as a member of the cyclic siloxane family, CSLX-D4E4 possesses the key advantage of extremely low curing shrinkage.
Applications and Performance:
Typical applications:
1. As an epoxy resin modifier, it imparts excellent corrosion resistance, antifouling properties, hydrophobicity, adhesion, mechanical properties, and heat resistance to epoxy resin systems.
2. When used in combination with phosphorus-containing phenols (DOPO-P) to modify phenolic epoxy resins, it enhances their heat resistance, mechanical properties, and flame retardancy, achieving halogen-free, high-efficiency flame retardancy.
3. As a raw material for fabric finishing agents, it undergoes a ring-opening reaction between its tetra-epoxy groups and N,N-dimethyl-1,3-propanediamine, followed by acidification with an acid, and finally reacts with end-epoxy silicone oil or end-epoxy polyether silicone oil to produce high-end fabric finishing agents. Treated fabrics are soft, breathable, and exhibit low yellowing, with improved elastic recovery and loft.
4. Used as a raw material for preparing linear epoxy-modified polysiloxanes; by adjusting the feed ratio of tetra-epoxycyclotetrasiloxane monomers, epoxy-functional polysiloxanes with precisely controlled epoxy content can be synthesized.
5. Used as a raw material for UV-curable silicone adhesives.
- Utilizing a silicone structure as the main chain segment of the resin fully leverages silicone’s resistance to moisture and heat, as well as its resistance to thermal shock.
- Through the ring-opening epoxidation reaction of acrylic acid, in addition to introducing an acrylic double bond to provide curing functional groups, an additional hydroxyl group is introduced. The presence of this hydroxyl group can interact physically or chemically with hydroxyl groups on the surface of the substrate to be bonded, significantly enhancing the adhesive’s bonding performance.
- Acrylic-modified D4E4, acting as a tetrafunctional crosslinking agent, effectively enhances the adhesive’s strength, thereby improving its overall performance.
6. As one of the raw materials for optical semiconductor device adhesives, adhesives prepared by polymerizing phenolic hydroxyl-containing cyclic siloxanes exhibit excellent properties such as shrinkage-free curing, high adhesion, heat resistance, and moisture resistance when used in optical semiconductor devices; When polymerized with linear siloxanes containing epoxy groups at both ends, it can be used to prepare a low-refractive-index optical fiber array adhesive with good reflow resistance and heat resistance.
